Qust al Bahri (Sea Incense Costus in english), also known by its scientific name Saussurea Lappa, is a thistle found in the Himalayas, Kashmir, India and Pakistan. The root is dried, and used in many medicinal preparations, and is popular in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The best medicines you may treat yourselves with are cupping and sea incense.’ He added, “You should not torture your children by treating tonsillitis by pressing the tonsils or the palate with the finger, but use incense.” (Bukhari 5696)
