Indian Costus or Qustul Hind (Also known as Qist, Qust Al Hindi, Costul Hind, Kuth Kushta or by its Botanical name Saussurea Lappa). It is used to treat health conditions such as Asthma, Migraines, Allergies, Stomach issues, Skin issues and Male sexual issues.
In the Sunan, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) praises the excellence of Qust as a general remedy and he is also reported mentioning it as a remedy for inflammation/infection of the throat as well as in another Hadith mentioning it with Hijama. Qust contains helicene and benzoic acid, both of which are substances that kill germs, hence the benefit in the treatment of infections and inflammations.
Imam Ibn Al Qayyim said that Qust is also very beneficial for illnesses relating to breathing and the chest – pleurisy (a type of painful infection of the lining of the lungs), asthma, heaviness in the chest (breathing difficulties) and it helps to reduce thirst. It also helps remove freckles, fade scars and helps to control skin discolouration on the face and the chest which results from pregnancy or malnutrition.
How to use:
• sniffing in the nostrils is good for sinus & throat problems, headaches & migraines, jinn possession, black magic and waswasa
• put 1 teaspoon in water and drink 2-4 times a day for gastro-intestinal issues, libido, fertility, jinn possession, black magic, join issues, diabetes, skin issues, weight loss etc
• simmer on a low heat in olive oil for 40 minutes, let it cool, apply to skin issues, joint pains and back ache
